How to Connect Your Domain Email to Gmail
May 23, 2026How to Back Up Your Website from cPanel
May 23, 2026If you have ever seen a padlock icon in a browser address bar, that is SSL at work. Here is what it means and why your website cannot do without it.
What is SSL?
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encrypts the connection between a visitor’s browser and your website. Any data exchanged — contact forms, passwords, payment details — cannot be intercepted in transit. Sites with SSL use https:// instead of http://.
Why it matters
Trust
Visitors who see “Not Secure” in their browser will leave immediately. A padlock signals your site is legitimate.
SEO ranking
Google confirmed HTTPS as a ranking factor. A site without SSL ranks lower than an equivalent site with it.
Browser warnings
Chrome marks all HTTP sites as “Not Secure”. For any site with a contact form, this kills conversions.
Payments
Accepting card payments without SSL is a PCI compliance violation — not optional.
Is SSL free on BadidiTech?
